The bilingual advantage
Kuper’s Junior
School enrols some 440 students located in two
modern buildings on Aesop Street in Kirkland, Quebec. The Early Learning Pavilion,
with its bright classrooms, playground and sport facilities accommodates
our preschool, kindergarten and early cycle elementary students.

Our original academy building, housing the
upper elementary cycles, also includes , a Junior School computer room and a
well-equipped gymnasium. After-school daycare services are also located in
the Junior School facilities.

ORGANIZATION
Kuper Academy’s
Junior School includes:
a half-day K-3 preschool option, a government subsidized full-day K-4
program, a full-day five-year old Kindergarten and all cycles of the Quebec
Elementary Program from grades one through six.

A Headmaster and an
assisting administrator are responsible for the Junior School.
Most grade levels in the Junior
School level have
three classes with an average size of 20 students and a maximum number of
25 at the upper elementary levels. Our subsidized K-4 Preschool Program has
a ratio of one teacher to ten students.
THE
KUPER JUNIOR SCHOOL LIBRARY
At Kuper, Library time is regarded as an exciting treat. Children visit the new
and well-stocked Kuper library each week for story reading by the librarian and to select a book for reading at home.
Regular visits to the
library also allow children to develop important referencing and research
skills.
THE
ELEMENTARY PROGRAM CYCLES I, II AND III (Grades 1 to 6)
The primary mission
of Kuper Academy’s
Junior School is to raise academic achievement
by encouraging students to high levels of success in the core subjects of
English, French, mathematics and science. Our elementary curriculum
concentrates on the skills that allow children to generate and communicate
ideas.
At Kuper, we place a
high value on learning the words, numbers and arts that children need to
understand and navigate their world. Kuper teachers combine elements of
traditional direct instruction with imaginative activities to provide a
sound basis for intellectual development.
The core curriculum
is complemented by a variety of additional subjects such as social studies
and the arts. We also offer an
advanced math class in grades five and six.
THE
PRESCHOOL AND KINDERGARTEN EXPERIENCE
Preschool and
Kindergarten children are natural learners. Kuper Academy’s
developmental preschool and Kindergarten programs are designed to provide a
stimulating dual-language environment at the peak of a young child’s learning capacity.
Our teachers
encourage each child to develop an active imagination. Social skills are developed through interaction with other children
during free play, group activities and drama. Well-qualified teachers
provide rich and varied programs to capitalize on the natural curiosity of
all children.
THE
BILINGUAL CURRICULUM
The Kuper Academy
Junior School
offers a fully bilingual curriculum from preschool
through the final cycle of elementary education.
Recognizing that we
must meet the needs of a diverse student population, we also provide for
differentiated French instruction to pupils who range in ability from
complete beginners to mother tongue Francophones.
